Intensive - Husbandry systems explanation

Intensive livestock farming is one in which the animals are year-round housed with adequate temperatures, feed and health care necessary for the fast production of animals. It is characterised by a high productivity per animal and per surface thanks to the use of specialised animals selected for fast growing and/or high yielding.

Semi-Intensive - Husbandry systems explanation

Semi-intensive livestock farming is an intermediary one in which the animals are generally fed inside, housed in lower density, have access to enriched environments (including outdoor access) favouring the expression of natural behaviours.

Extensive - Husbandry systems explanation

Extensive livestock production is an animal farming system characterised by a low productivity per animal and per surface. Extensive livestock production systems usually have a low stocking rate and are essentially based on grazing for cattle and free-range access for chicken. Robust dual-purpose cattle breeds and slow growing chicken strains are generally used.
