The annual Les Journées Limousines, hosted by Beauvallet for the past decade, is a major event showcasing Limousin cattle in Limoges, central France. This three-day exhibition invites Limousin cattle farmers, along with Beauvallet’s partners—including butchers, supermarkets, and restaurants—as well as scientific and research collaborators, to explore innovations in cattle breeding and beef quality. The 2024 event marks the 10th anniversary of Les Journées Limousines, featuring special presentations from key INTAQT project members.
During this milestone event, Emmanuel Hugo, President of INRAE Clermont-Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, presented a retrospective of INTAQT‘s impactful research. Marie-Pierre Ellies Oury outlined the project’s future research initiatives, particularly those in collaboration with Beauvallet. As a dedicated INTAQT partner, Beauvallet has contributed significantly to the project’s research on sustainable beef farming systems, emphasizing the use of Limousin cattle raised on grass-based diets in the Massif Central region under the “High Natural Value” label.
The INTAQT project focuses on enhancing sustainable, quality beef production, a commitment reflected in Beauvallet’s premium Or Rouge beef brand. This brand’s specifications include a focus on marbling, ageing, and high eating quality to meet market standards. At the event, INTAQT researchers presented their progress in beef quality assessment, including the development of camera-based technology to measure marbling and improve nutritional quality. By comparing extensive grass-fed systems to intensive methods, INTAQT aims to clarify the benefits of sustainable farming practices for Limousin beef production.
This gathering of Limousin cattle farmers, scientific partners, and agricultural stakeholders at Les Journées Limousines offers a unique platform to promote INTAQT strategy, driving sustainable beef farming and quality enhancement in the Limousin region.
